Commotio's latest CD, entitled "Luminosity", was released in February 2010 and exclusively
features the choral music of James Whitbourn, as well as Desmond
Tutu, Levine Andrade (a founder member of the Arditti Quartet), and the superb tenor Christopher Gillett.
Best known for his inspired Son of God Mass for saxophone, choir and organ, the internationally acclaimed British composer, conductor and writer James
Whitbourn is admired for his fresh, distinctive yet accessible compositional voice. Setting texts from ancient seers to the modern luminary Desmond
Tutu, the works on this recording reflect the breadth of the composer's achievements, from the monumental Magnificat written for King's College Cambridge,
to the Classical / Indian fusion work Luminosity - a rare choral work composed for dance, and scored for Choir, Organ, Tam-Tam, Viola and the wonderful instrument, the Tanpura.
The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are set for Choir, Organ and Tam-Tam, and the inspiring miniature, A Prayer of Desmond Tutu, features Desmond himself.
The title work, Luminosity (all 7 tracks), was played on BBC Radio 3's program The Choir by the presenter Aled Jones on Sunday February 7th, 2010. During the programme Aled spoke at length with James Whitbourn - you can hear that interview here.
And James Whitbourn was interviewed by BBC SouthEast News, who wanted to know about "the fastest-selling choral CD" - watch it here.
To buy Luminosity, we suggest you visit an HMV store, or buy online from HMV or from Amazon.
